Who we are

The Myalgic Encephalomyelitis Association of Ontario was founded in 1990 when a group of concerned citizens realized that there was no support for those afflicted with M.E./ CFS. We are a registered charity. Our Charitable Number is 89226 7568 RR0001.

Our Mandate

  • To ensure that people living with M.E./CFS, wherever they live in Ontario, have the information, support and referrals they need to obtain the best possible care, and to ensure that all those affected are educated about new guidelines to protect their health.
  • To encourage a strong provincial network of services for M.E./CFS, including a provincial help line, support groups and other services.
  • To provide education, support and assistance to partners, family members, teachers, co-workers and friends of people living with M.E./CFS.
  • To educate health care providers and institutions, the educational system, government agencies, disability and insurance providers, employers, the media and the general public about the facts of Myalgic Encephalomyelitis and the needs of those living with the illness.

How To Donate

The MEAO relies on donations and individuals for most of our services. We are grateful for a small grant from the City of Toronto, and we are in our second year of a three-year grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation. However, without our wonderful individual and group donors our Association would not be able to provide our services to the thousands of people living with M.E./CFS, their family members, health care professionals and the general public.

We would like to thank all of our donors. We couldn't do it without you!

Help Us Open Our First Centre In 2009

Did you know that our Association is currently run from our homes? People living with M.E. need a public centre where they can call for information or visit with staff to get help. We need a Centre with a Resource Library and a place for meetings and support groups.

Please help us with our special 2009 campaign as we work together to raise almost $39,000 from our individual donors so we can open Ontario’s first centre for people living with M.E./CFS.
